Blogging Around

The two blogs that I decided to comment on this week, belong to Chris and Declan.  Chris's blog took a 360 degree stance on freedom.  He made the point that there is and has been no such thing as total freedom.  I responded:

"The intro to your blog really caught my attention, both in terms of originality and writing style. You took something ordinary and taken-for-granted like freedom, and questioned it from a 360 degree perspective. Throughout the paper, your writing holds on to my attention. One, because you are writing in your true voice, and two because you dig deeper and deeper into your topic. It was very insightful for you to formulate that the government, the preserver of freedom, also denies us freedom. One thing I did not quite understand was your parallel from freedom to pushups. I think if you went a little in depth in terms of explaining the parallel, it would have provided a stronger conclusion."

Declan's blog explained a comparison of King Lear to Michael Scott.  He explained how both characters' power is waning.  Here's how I responded:

"Wow. This is a great blog. As an avid Office fan, I am disappointed to admit that I didn't see the comparison. That being said, I think it was very original and also very insightful. The comparison helped me personally to understand and see what Lear is going through. Comparisons like this are reall what helps modern readers understand and comprehend Shakespeare. I really liked how you realized not only that both Lear and Michael's situations are the same, but also their responses to their similar situations. Seeing comparisons like this, other than helping us understand and comprehend the book, can also help us predict what might happen later in the book based on our comparisons. Overall, Declan, I think this is a great blog. I wish I had read it while I was reading The Tragedy of King Lear, because this definitely would have enriched my experience with Shakespeare."
